I think the government should try to persuade the indigenous people to obey the law. Because this fishery law is used to protect the ecology and has no political. If more people do not comply with environmental laws, it will damage the environment. Because this is not only the land and environment of the indigenous people, it is the land and environment of all humans.
Recently, after violent clashes over the Indigenous fishery in the Nova Scotia, there was a fire destroying the fish plant. The indeginous people were very disgruntled that the commercial fishermen did not follow the law to fish. From my viewpoint, the government need to set up a law to restrict the fish business and increase the policy on this law. What’s more, the government also shuould give some assistance payment to those whose plants were destroyed in this accident.
I think it’s good that the government wants to protect the local environment and send more police to stop it. But if the choice is always to send more police to stop or even intimidate the aborigines. I think it will only reinforce the growth of indigenous nationalism. So I think the government needs to communicate with aboriginal leaders.
